For instance:

  • A noun can and should have the article “a”, “an”, “the” or the word “some” before a word.
  • The verb ends with the phrase “let us …”.

  • The ending “-ly” forms an adverb when added to an adjective.

In English, it is sometimes difficult to determine which part of speech is a word in a sentence.

For example,

the same word can have many meanings, and it can act as a different part of speech. For example, the well-known word “book” can be used as an adjective, as a noun, and even as a verb.

Very often, students get confused with parts of speech and, trying to use familiar words, use a verb instead of a noun or adjective, etc.

Let’s take a look at some of the word-formation methods:

This method is often applied to nouns and adjectives, and you can make a verb out of them without changing the spelling or pronunciation.

For example:

master – to master, water – to water, house – to house, empty – to empty white – to white

Using this method, you can form a new one from two nouns , simply by combining them .

For example:

airfield – airfield (air-air, field – field), schoolday – school day (school – school, day – day), birthplace – place of birth (birth – birth, place – place). Determination Formation of Parts of Speech
