What is Arbitrary/meaning/concept/elaboration

Decisions taken can have two types of evaluations: fair or unfair. A decision is fair when it is balanced and based on some equitable or proportional criterion. On the other hand, if we have a decision without any equity criteria and we think exclusively about our particular interests, it means that we are facing arbitrary behavior . In this way, arbitrary is synonymous with unfair.

Arbitrary is a clearly pejorative term, as it is an adjective that devalues a person . Acting arbitrarily can lead to a selfish attitude, which has no notion of what is right or wrong, or else, to make a person without moral values .

A charge of arbitrariness is usually applied to people who should act correctly, respecting the laws of justice.

Let’s think about a judge, who is responsible for evaluating conduct and giving the final verdict on it. The law requires him to be impartial, he must respect what is established by the legislation and, at the same time, he must not care about the damage he may cause to the defendant. Your attitude must be opposed to arbitrariness. Something similar happens in other activities (such as a teacher, a soccer referee or a police officer) in which there are norms, criteria and rules to be followed and their decisions obeyed.

A behavior can be arbitrary in two ways: consciously or unconsciously. In the first case, it is an unfair and deliberate attitude. In the case of being unconscious, there are those who act unfairly without knowing what they are doing, but who let themselves be taken by prejudice or an irrational reason, therefore, this is something that comes from the unconscious.

When considering that an individual acted arbitrarily, there is a moral valuation

Thus, it is assumed that when a person disrespects another he is accused of arbitrariness, because the accuser has a non-arbitrary and fair criterion , opposite to those who behave arbitrarily.

There are several language contexts that employ the arbitrary concept

When a person abuses their authority (a boss , a dictator or anyone who holds power). It is also used to indicate the illegality of certain attitudes. When there is capricious behavior without any justification , it can be considered an arbitrary attitude.

In any aspect or context, when a posture is arbitrary it does not communicate objectivity. Consequently, if we say something arbitrarily, what we say loses value and becomes uninteresting.

Finally, it should be noted that arbitrary is a different term, as it refers to a decision signed by several people, in this sense, there is no negative connotation.
